Wietze Dykstra

Knowlesville
Wietze Dykstra moved to Canada in 1988 from the Netherlands and purchased his farm in 1991. Initially milking 50 cows and farming 250 acres, Dykstra Farms now milks 170 to 190 cows on 1,000 acres.
As chair of the Dairy Farmers of New Brunswick, Wietze believes in leading by example and, through Living Lab N.B., promotes advanced nutrient management and greenhouse gas reduction research underway on his farm.

He says the research done to validate results will lead to improved industry practices and adds that Living Labs best management practices, such as no-till farming and the use of a greenhouse gas calculator, help reduce the farm’s carbon footprint and meet consumer and processor demands for sustainable practices.
