Oscar Daigle and Sons Farms is a fifth-generation operation in Madawaska County, operating since 1852.
The farm started after Augustin, the son of the original settler Joseph Daigle, bought 327 acres of land for around 100 British pounds and brought in cows for milking.
Today, the farm is the largest dairy in the region and also owns approximately 2,100 acres of woodland and 820 acres of farmland. Robotic milkers have been installed, and production is around 2.5 million litres of milk a year.
Cover crops at the farm help improve pasture, forage and cropping systems, as well as nitrogen efficiency, include 50-50 red and crimson clover at 6-pound per acre on high legumes plots and 4-pound Italian ryegrass on low legume plots.
