Lakefront Farms is operated by Nick Tisdale, a first-generation farmer with a passion for sustainability and a strong attention to detail. He started out farming smaller acres on corners that were undesirable and has since worked his way up to owning and operating a sizeable land base.
In addition to farming, Nick is the regional agronomist for Yara Canada, a global fertilizer company heavily invested in sustainable innovation. This provides Nick with access to some of the topsoil-fertility experts across the globe. Yara is an active partner in the New Brunswick Living Lab initiative and has included this farm as a sentinel site for their global sustainable cropping systems research.
Lakefront Farm focuses on growing oats and potatoes, in a one-one rotation. A service crop rotation treatment is included in the experimental design to explore the long-term impact of alternate rotations on soil health, crop productivity, soil carbon accumulation and greenhouse gas emissions.
