GAM Michaud

Saint André
Ferme GAM Michaud began in 1860 before Canada was even a country, when Marcelle Michaud’s great-grandfather planted potatoes in the northwestern community of Saint André.
Marcelle still farms the same family land and still grows potatoes. And just as his great-grandfather took careful steps to establish the fertile land, Marcelle does the same to maintain it. He’s fully aware that modern potato production is input-intensive and he needs to monitor and track the inputs that go into the soil.

That’s why Marcelle is taking part in New Brunswick Living Lab. He knows he’s not using too much fertilizer, but wants the scientific facts to back him up, especially when it comes to nitrogen use. Always monitoring the soil and doing foliar analyses, Marcelle already made changes to those inputs. Since nitrogen is harder to measure, participating in New Brunswick Living Lab provides the field data he needs to make future input decisions.
